Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) cause cervical and other cancers. Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in women with 274, 000 patients dying every year. There is a vaccine available against HPV but it is not accessible to everyone and it is only effective against specific (not all!) HPV subtypes. Thus, there is great need to develop further treatment options. In my PhD I am trying to contribute to the knowledge of how the virus causes cancer. This knowledge might help to develop the necessary treatment options which will greatly improve people?s health worldwide.
